With so many new series on the tube this fall, navigating your way through the good and the bad can cause one to miss out on several episodes before a final decision is made as to what is Tivo-worthy. What's good this fall? We've taken the guess work out of a difficult situation and have provided a list of the best bets on television this fall.
1. Jericho
Wednesdays at 8pm on CBSWhen a town comes to the realization that they may be the only survivors of a nationwide nuclear attack, they must pull together and find a new way of life -- without killing each other. This character-driven drama offers viewers a realistic take on one of our greatest fears.
2. Heroes
Mondays at 9pm on NBCWhat if everyday, ordinary people possessed super powers? Can you imagine finding out your neighbor can fly? One professor has made it his life's work to prove this theory. Heroes offer viewers a chance to escape for an hour each week into the wonderful world of sci-fi and philosophy.
3. Vanished
Mondays at 9pm on FoxGetting a head start out of the premiere gate has given this enticing new drama a big advantage over the competition. The bad news? Not only will we lose this series for several weeks during baseball season, there are two other great dramas (Heroes and Runaway) that will grab the opportunity to lure viewers into their camps.
4. Runaway
Mondays at 9pm on the CWThe newly formed CW may be light on new programming, but Runaway may grab the curious viewer with the exciting premise and believable family dynamics. The bad news: The Monday, 9pm competition is stiff and let's face it -- loyal WB viewers are still pretty ticked about the cancellation of their beloved Everwood.
5. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Mondays at 10pm on NBCEasily one of the most anticipated dramas this season is Studio 60 because it marks the return of both Aaron Sorkin and Matthew Perry back into the television fold. This character-driven drama gives viewers a peek into what it takes to run a show very much like Saturday Night Live, while giving us lots of laughs. The bad news? There isn't any! Tivo does allow you to record two shows at once, so Tivo CSI: Miami and watch Studio 60.
6. Shark
Thursdays at 10pm on CBSIt's House for the legal world! James Woods is simply divine as the incredibly brash and arrogant lawyer Sebastian Stark in this latest offering from CBS. His team of prosecutors is an interesting ensemble of actors who each bring something fresh to the table. The bad news? Not much in the way of bad news except for the fact that it's up against ER and Six Degrees, but CBS certainly isn't afraid of a little Thursday night competition.
7. Justice
Wednesdays at 9pm on FoxThere may be an excessive amount of legal dramas on the air these days, but this series gives viewers the insight into how a case is tried in the media and what goes into creating a successful defense. The bad news? Yikes -- it's up against Lost! Better get that Tivo ready, you won't want to miss either series on Wednesdays.
8. Six Degrees
Thursdays at 9pm on ABCWe've all played the six degrees of Kevin Bacon game, but Lost creator J.J. Abrams has created a series that gives validity to that fun and thought-provoking game. The bad news? This series faces some pretty stiff competition on Thursdays at 10pm. My recommendation is to give this series a try before you make any final decisions. Luckily, ABC will offer free downloads the day after the show airs.
9. The Nine
Wednesdays at 10pm on ABCWould being held hostage for fifty-two hours change your life? You bet it would. This series follows nine victims of a bank robbery hostage ordeal as they deal with the aftermath of the worst experience of their lives. The bad news? It's up against CSI: NY and NBC's Kidnapped. My recommendation? Ditch NBC and choose The Nine.
10. Ugly Betty
Thursdays at 8pm on ABCFor everyone who has felt even just a little bit self-conscious, this series is for you. Betty may seem like an ordinary gal, but underneath is an incredible woman waiting to break out of her shell. The bad news? It's as bad as it gets -- this series is up against three other major contenders on the Thursday, 8pm timeslot. My recommendation: Watch Survivor free on Innertube on Friday mornings and save a spot on Tivo for Betty.
